Puls is fintech platform offering real-time cash-flow management and instant on-demand credit for small and medium-sized businesses.

TAsk Goal

Speed up credit-limit assessment and recalculation. Design an internal web admin tool to streamline and automate the process.

50%

faster credit-limit assessment

On this project, we didn’t have a product manager, so I took on part of the responsibility for gathering requirements and aligning decisions. I discussed expectations with the CEO and conducted interviews with risk managers to understand their workflow and pain points.

Before this project started, credit-limit assessment was done in a huge Excel file with thousands of rows. Risk managers also had to manually gather additional data from several other admin tools. This made the process slow and increased the risk of human error.

The timeline was very tight. Researching existing solutions was almost impossible, because I couldn’t find anything similar in open sources. This pushed me to rely on quick iterations and my own experience.

Limits list

The first step was to bring all client data into a single place. This page solved several key problems:

  1. Risk managers can quickly find any client and see all necessary information.

  2. It highlights new clients awaiting limit assessment and existing clients whose limits require recalculation.

  3. It enables sending limit changes for peer review, and approving or rejecting them.

  4. Most importantly — it centralizes data that previously had to be collected manually from multiple tools.

Change History

Part of the process still happens manually, so errors are possible. I added a detailed history of all changes made by risk managers, visible to anyone with permission. This allows the team to instantly see who changed what and when.

Review & Approval Flow

Credit-limit decisions carry high responsibility. Previously, a single risk manager could make the decision alone, which sometimes led to mistakes.

I introduced a two-step review flow, where each limit change must be confirmed by another manager. This slightly slows down the flow but significantly reduces errors.

Design System

To speed up development, we used Material UI with custom styling. I created a practical, minimal set of colors and reusable components tailored to the product’s needs.

Outcome

A few months after launch, risk managers reported a 50% faster credit-limit assessment process.

Scope of Work

  1. Login screen

  2. Two complex product sections with multiple states and advanced functionality

  3. Component-based design system

Next Steps

Risk managers still analyze banking transactions manually in Excel. The next big task will be creating a bank-transaction module, which should automate this part and further speed up the process.

Challenge

The main challenge was the absence of a product manager on this project. I had to collect requirements, coordinate decisions, organize discussions, and manage the workflow myself — which meant spending more time on communication and less on hands-on design work.
